Laser Therapy: A Time-Tested Treatment

Laser therapy, or Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER), has a long history, with its origins dating back to 1916, when Albert Einstein first proposed the concept. Today, it is commonly referred to by several names, including Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), Low-Intensity Laser Therapy (LILT), Cold Laser Therapy, and Photobiomodulation (PBM).

How Laser Therapy Works
All cells are responsive to light, and certain wavelengths can either stimulate or inhibit cellular functions, depending on their intensity and duration of application. Lasers and LEDs emit concentrated beams of light at specific wavelengths. When the correct wavelength, intensity, and exposure time are applied to the appropriate anatomical area, laser therapy can effectively promote tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and alleviate pain.

At Centaur Massage Therapy, we utilise a Class 3B laser, ensuring a safe treatment with no photothermal risks, offering all the therapeutic benefits of laser therapy without any adverse effects.
